As a child growing up in Atlanta Ga., we often swan at the YMCA during the winter. As an adult, what was intended to be a volunteer opportunity, after retiring from one career, turned into a full time job with the Black Achievers Program. Helping youth learn how to effectively communicate their ideas, resolve conflict, set goals, discover new careers, and what they are actually capable of as they develop during those critical years of high school proved to be more engaging than I imagined. It has been one of the most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever had.
