I was chairman of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Program about 7 years ago when we heard about a Leadership Program for youth. We were able to partner with Hayes Taylor YMCA and become a part of the leadership portion of the Black & Latino Achievers Program. I came monthly with our Beaus. As a result, I was invited to become a mentor with the Black & Latino Achievers Program. Here I am 6 six years later still involved. The focus of the program is to educate and expose youths to a variety of careers in business, science, education, government, law, media and other fields. We encourage our students to complete high school and post-secondary education. We also focus on leadership and communication skills by incorporating Toastmasters (public speaking) into our goal. Most importantly we meet the students where they are!
