Aaron Shelton

“Y” I love coaching basketball . Ever since I can remember I’ve always loved watching Basketball on TV. It wasn’t until my 10th grade year before I started playing organized ball . I picked the game up very quickly and was pretty good, Winning most high school tournaments while being named All American and tournament MVP . After graduating I was asked to become my high schools basketball coach and realized there was more to learn about the game. If I had to pick just one thing I love about coaching it would be watching the development of players from start to finish. Things have changed a lot since Dr James Naismith invented the game for the YMCA in 1891. Basketball is one of the few sports that can be played indoors and out, with all the while getting physical exercise and learning about team development. In 1891 there were only 13 rules and now we have nearly 100. Each year I love working with children of all ages to try to help them learn this wonderful game, whether I am coaching, officiating, or just watching some kids have fun on the playground. Basketball is a wonderful sport just to have fun and learn great fundamentals. I love coaching for the YMCA and thank them for the opportunity to coach young kids. But I have to give credit where credit is due, God has blessed me with three great boys who I get to coach everyday about all aspects in life and a great wife who allows me to do what I do.
Aaron’s son’s favorite parts of Y Basketball are:
JJ: “I love shooting 3 pointers!”
Joey: “I love making layups and playing with my dad!”
Jaxon: “I love making shots!”
